So, admittedly, there's not a lot of the usual deep insight I can give you in regards to this topic. I'd love to share what colors of cars were available, which ones are rarer, etc. Simply put, that is not my area of expertise.

I can, however, show everything I do know.

1:87 vehicles were available since Samsonite's 1961 release in North America via the 725 Town Plan. This applies for both Canada and the United States, as they both just imported/used the same vehicles from Billund.

There was the classic trio of Esso service vehicles(that were never sold separately, only ever available in the 725):

And the VW Beetle (only the shorter version). These were sold individually starting in 1964, below are some examples of fairly common colors:

Individual sales began in 1964 for 75c each, with six different styles being offered: the Opel Rekord, Mercedes 220S, Mercedes 190SL, VW Beetle, Ford Taunus, and Karmann Ghia. Each would've came in the clear plastic garage with a small paper band around it, it does not seem North American 1:87 vehicles ever came in boxes like in Europe. Below are a few 1964-67 adverts which corroborate this:

As that last example was from 1967, and it was the only known appearance in that year, and it was a crazy discount, importing of the individual cars for individual sale probably went as late as 1966. The issue is proving that.

My thought is, along with the dried up 1967 appearances, the individual cars inventory was depleted via the Imaginations Inc offer in late 1966:

But of course that was not the final appearance of them in North America. They went on to be used in the 536 Designer Set from ~1968(as it did not originally include the 1:87 vehicle) to 1970, as well as the 1969-70 842 Town Plan and 1970 157 Four Car Auto Transport.
