_____

The goal with this unofficial project is to document the Samsonite Corporation's history, including all their side ventures, in detail. Of course Samsonite produced their staple luggage for which they are most known for, but across their over century long history also produced several lines of furniture including outdoor, classroom, folding, and home furniture, took military contracts, produced toys including the beloved LEGO, their own line of preschool toys, and board games, served as a distributor for Modulex for a short time, and even produced supermarket items such as kitchen utensils, clocks, and hair dryers.

Different than more casual sources, Bricksonite utilizes an academic approach. The preservation and analysis of contemporary materials is key to understanding the past and reconstructing reality. All information hosted onsite is auditable, backed up with primary sources and rigorous argumentation that is freely available.

Bricksonite also hosts materials from other luggage manufacturers, with the goal of intimately understanding the industry and its evolution as a whole. Despite playing an integral role in several of the most impactful industries of the twentieth century from automobiles to air travel, luggage history is often overlooked and understudied.
